Still, I'm definitely paying close attention to what's in style this A/W season. My own personal style is always evolving, but I gravitate toward classic pieces, and black is certainly a dominant color in my wardrobe. Lately - perhaps because I've finally started watching "Sons of Anarchy" (most addictive show ever, by the way) - I find myself drawn to a somewhat "tougher" style aesthetic. I'm loving skulls, studs and leather these days. So, I created my own "Holiday Must-Haves" list with my favorite pieces of the season.
Treesje "Mortale" skull tote, Isabel Marant studded moto boots.
- A fab (faux) fur vest...
Because it's already freezing in Chicago, and I need to stay warm, but my regular winter parka is boring... A fur vest will look luxe layered over a pullover sweater, and keep your midsection nice and toasty. Personally, I'd opt for faux-fur, both for ethical and economic reasons. However, if you must have the real deal, I recommend checking secondhand shops for a vintage fur that you can upcycle into a chic vest.
- Skinny, sexy black leather pants...
For me - despite being petite and curvy - black leggings are a style staple. This season, I want to amp it up a bit and find a super-sexy pair of black leather skinny pants. Whether dressed-up with a silk blouse and high-heel boots, or dressed-down with a chunky sweater and flats, they'll work wonders for my too-short legs. And they never, never go out of style!
- A rough-and-skully handbag... I'm absolutely stoked that skulls are back in style! This bad-ass symbol reminds me of my punk-rock teenage days back in the late 1990s. I've already got a couple of skull scarves, so now of course, I want a matching handbag. I'm particularly enamored of the "Mortale" tote bag by Treesje, since I recently scored my first Treesje bag at a resale shop, but I'd happily take pretty much anything by Thomas Wylde or Alexander McQueen, too!
- Studded moto-boots...
I'm still kicking myself (no pun intended) for tossing my old Dr. Martens combat boots that I'd had since my aforementioned punk-rock days in high school. But since my style has significantly evolved in the almost (gulp) 15 years since I graduated, it's definitely time for me to upgrade my moto boots. In keeping with my recent "tough-girl" style infatuation, I'm searching for a sleek-and-studded pair to wear with some dark skinnies.
With the holidays coming, I've seen my shop-blog sales shooting sky-high! (Remember all my designer shoes? I've already sold most of them. But no worries, I'm posting even more as fast as I can!) If you haven't taken a peek at my Poshmark, Threadflip, or Tradesy closets yet, now's the perfect time.
This season, I'm keeping my holiday gift-giving unique and sustainable. Want to do the same? Follow me for upcoming tips on "green" shopping and style, and whoever you are and whatever you celebrate, have a very happy holiday season!
